Police and witnesses said two gunmen attacked the elders at 6pm outside a shop, killing one and seriously injuring the other. Mohammed Shaibu of Mwembe Kuku village died on the spot after he was shot three times in the chest by the gunmen who escaped on a motorcycle.
Mohammed Sharifudin, a community policing official, is admitted at a private hospital with a shoulder injury. The two gunmen are believed to behind last week’s murder of a police officer on Haile Selassie Avenue in retaliation for the killing of terror suspect Idris Ismail Shosi in Bondeni area.
According to police reports, the recent gun attacks are being coordinated by Idris's brother Ismail Mohammed Shosi, who is an al Shabab returnee. Ismail escaped when police raided their home on September 14.
