Several people were injured in a stampede at the Likoni Crossing Channel on Thursday morning as crowds scrambled to board MV Kilindini and MV Harambee which were the only ferries that were operational.
Kenya Ferry Services withdrew MV Likoni and MV Nyayo for structural repairs and maintenance last week but MV Nyayo was however deployed to ease the congestion.
Bofu Ward representative Suleiman Boma, who was caught in the 6am incident, urged the Kenya Ferry Services to expedite the repairs.
“This is a time bomb. If the Kenya Ferry Services is unable to serve the locals, they should ask the Kenya Port Authority for assistance,” he said.
