The construction of the Southern Bypass in Eldoret at a cost of KES 6 billion will begin in January.
The project, which is aimed at reducing traffic congestion in the Uasin Gishu capital, will be funded by the African Development Bank.
The construction of the road was one of the subjects discussed by President Uhuru Kenyatta and North Rift leaders during a meeting at the Eldoret State Lodge on Sunday evening.
Deputy President William Ruto said the construction is of the road is a fulfillment of a promise the Jubilee government made to area residents.
Ruto also announced that survey work is underway to construct a dual carriageway from the Eldoret International Airport on Kisumu Road to the junction near the University of Eldoret on Iten Road.
“The government is working on the new roads to ease movement of people and vehicles in the entire region,” he said.
Uasin Gishu Governor Jackson Mandago said the county has bought its own equipment to repair and do new roads.
He said that the county has invested more than KES 2 billion on roads in the past two years.
