Kamiti prison warders thwart escape attempt

Prison warders at the Kamiti Maximum prison thwarted an attempt by hardcore convicts to escape from their cells on Sunday night. Gunshots were fired and sirens set off as the warders struggled to contain the escape.

Officials say the escape attempt was led by two prisoners who had earlier in 2013 escaped from Shimo La Tewa before being recaptured. The situation was however contained hours later and no injury was reported.
