Man, 22, arrested for raping 90 year old granny in Gatanga

A 22-year old man has been arrested in Gatanga, Muranga for allegedly raping a 90 year-old woman from Gathanji village.

Joseph Mwaura Muriu was caught by the woman’s son and his wife after they heard her shouting for help.

Muriu reportedly broke into the woman's house where she was alone sleeping. He is said to have warned her not to scream.

The victim’s daughter in-law had gone out to answer a call of nature when she heard the voices of a screaming woman and a man. She alerted her husband and on rushing to the scene, they reportedly caught Muriu in the act.

The woman was found naked and the suspect hiding half naked in a separate room.

The woman's son and his wife called neighbours and the local assistant chief who escorted the suspect to Kirwara police station.

Muriu will appear in court on Thursday.
