Embassava SACCO has supported the Director of Public Prosecution Kiriako Tobiko concern directive for investigations into an incident where a lady was stripped by alleged touts attached to the sacco.
The Sacco's treasurer Festus Mwai said they recorded a statement with the Department of Criminal Investigations Officer Central Police Division Nairobi to assist them in their investigation.
Mwai said a clip showing the stripping incident only captured one of the sacco's buses as it was cruising in town. He said the video did not show any personnel of the sacco taking part in the stripping.
“After close scrutiny and analysis of the clip, it is very clear that this infamous act was performed by some notorious lay-abouts along our operation routes,” Mwai said during a press conference in Nairobi on Monday.
He said all the Embassava staff including drivers, conductors and stage clerks are all uniformed and none appeared in the footage as posted in the internet and on social media.
He added, ”As a major player in the public service transport that instils discipline operation we don’t condone rowdiness, unwanton [sic] treatment to our clients and public in general.
Matatu Owners Association Chairman Dickson Mbugua condemned the incident and asked the government to prosecute those responsible for taking the law into their own hands.
“In the civilized world every person is allowed to dress how they want because constitutionally they have a right,”Mbugua said.
Last week a woman was stripped naked in the middle of town behind National Archives at the stop for the Embassava buses for dressing inappropriately.
