A close family member of the late Homa Bay Senator Otieno Kajwang' has said Faith Vivian Otieno was legally married to the late senator.
The family member, who declined to be named, said Faith is Kajwang's second wife.
Some of those mourning Kajwang' at his rural home and family members told The Star that Faith was legally married to the senator and could not be barred from paying her last respect to her late husband.
“Since our late son has not been buried, I do not want to be named as I don’t want to create differences within the family,” said the family member.
He was speaking at Kajwang's rural home on Saturday when the Homa Bay governor Cyprian Awiti visited the family to assess the progress on the preparation of his burial on Friday.
Another source even claimed to have “seduced” Faith for the late Senator and even attended the dowry payment ceremony.
“We took six cows and cash amounting to Sh60,000 as a bride price for Vivian in 1995,” said the source.
Residents said they will accord Faith, who was expected to arrive at Waondo on Sunday, a heroic welcome.
They said Faith struggled with the late senator during his campaigns in Mbita to be elected for the first time into parliament in 1997.
Even though she had no official home, The Star learnt that Vivian had a house at Kajwang’s father's homestead.
The family said they will construct her a home before the burial of the late senator on Friday.
Faith with her daughter Christine Otieno on Friday stormed Lee Funeral home where the body of the late Senator is being preserved to view the body, however they were barred.
“Kajwang had two kids with Faith; Christine and Ronnie Odinga and that is not a secret,” said the family member.
