A Kiambu MCA has recorded a statement with the police saying he was allegedly assaulted by Governor William Kabogo’s aides during a wedding reception.
Joseph Murugami of Limuru Central ward told the press the incident happened on Saturday night at Sovereign Suites, Limuru Road.
He said Kabogo’s bodyguards tried to drag him outside the hall, drew their guns and threatened to kill him for “fighting the county government”.
“I was dancing with my wife after midnight in the presence of other dignitaries when the bodyguards, whom I know, pushed us. My wife fell and they tried to drag me outside,” Murugami said at Tigoni police station yesterday.
Murugami has been at loggerheads with Kabogo for sponsoring an impeachment motion against the governor last year.
He said people tried to rescue him but the four bodyguards were relentless.
“My friends rescued me and I called police who provided me with two officers to escort me home, but I fear for my life,” said Murugami.
Ngewa MCA Karungo wa Thang’wa, who accompanied Murugami at Tigoni, said the national government should arrest the bodyguards and confiscate their firearms.
“No one has authority to threaten any Kiambu resident, let alone an elected leader,” he said.
Thang’wa said Kabogo should condemn the incident, which happened in his presence.
