Ugandan police said Thursday they have arrested two people for producing sex films in a crackdown that follows the introduction of last year's anti-pornography law.
People found guilty of producing, trafficking or publishing pornography face up to 10 years in jail as well as fines of up to 10 million Ugandan shillings (around $3,500, 2900 euros) after the law was passed in February 2014.
Those arrested included Mariam Ndibasa, known as "auntie" for her sex education talks, as well as a male colleague.
"We have been investigating this racket involving production and sale of pornographic materials," Simon Kuteesa, head of the police's media crime unit, told AFP.
"Production and distribution of pornographic materials is illegal and whoever was involved knew this."
Uganda's Daily Monitor newspaper said police and the ethics and integrity ministry have since November "intensified their hunt for people trafficking in pornography."
In November, musician Didi Muchwa Mugisha, 28, pleaded guilty for producing and trafficking pornography, following the release of a pop music video which included a singer in her underwear. He was fined 200,000 Ugandan shillings ($75 dollars, 60 euros).
Singer Jemimah Kansiime, 20, was held for a month in jail before raising the cash for bail. She has pleaded not guilty and awaits trial.
Critics such as Human Rights Watch have said the law -- which defines pornography as the showing "by whatever means" of "real or stimulated explicit sexual activities" -- had prompted the harassment of women deemed to be dressed "indecently."
