The Taita Taveta county government has signed a deal to provide water for irrigation and domestic use.
The water will be pumped from Mzima Springs and Lake Chala by a consortium of Spanish investors for KES 10 billion.
About 120,000 cubic metres of water will be supplied daily.
The project will be carried out in two phases. It is a flagship project under Transform Taita Taveta 2020, which seeks to lift the county to middle-income status by 2020, Governor John Mruttu said on Thursday at his office.
Mruttu said water will be supplied to Tsavo National Park so as to minimise human-wildlife conflict and also added that one objective of the project is to develop ranching as a core economic activity.
The investors’ lead partner Tony Mwaruwa of Miraad Ltd said the funding partners will visit the county in February.
