A gang of three men shot at Kongowea Ward representative Jabess Oduor's vehicle on Monday morning.
Oduor told The Star that he was on his way to a meeting called by the Mombasa Women's Representative Mishi Mboko at Mkomani showground when the incident occurred at 11am.
He said the three men, who pretended to be his supporters, approached him on two motorbikes at the gate to the showground and insisted that he opens his car window but he refused on finding the men suspicious then he asked his driver to keep all the windows shut and drive off.
Oduor said the passenger on one of the motorbikes shot at the vehicle as it sped off, damaging one of its windows.
He added that he had changed his car because some unknown people had been trailing him for the last three days.
Oduor reported the incident at Nyali police station with the shooting coming days after Oduor he declared his intention to run for Mombasa governor seat in 2017.
He said on Friday that he is qualified to replace Governor Hassan Joho who “has not put Mombasa where it belongs".
He said the county lacks leaders experienced in county government structures and expansion, a loophole that he promised to seal.
