Defender John Boye is delighted to have scored Ghana’s vital equalizer in the 2-1 win over South Africa on Tuesday during their last AFCON 2015 Group C match.

The 27-year old came on as a substitute for Daniel Amartey who had to be hurled off injured after 36 minutes of the game played in Mongomo.

Boye emerged as one of the heroes of the night by fetching Ghana’s all-important equalizer deep into the second half before Andre Ayew scored Ghana’s eventual winner after Avram Grant’s side had gone behind early in the first half.

The Kayseri Erciyesspor defender is happy to have been the one to set Ghana on its way to victory despite his attempt to downplay his immense contribution in the win over Bafana Bafana.

“I was just doing my work [about how much the goal meant to him],” he told Africanfootball.com. “I am here to do my work and that is what I did.

“It was an important goal for the team and we are happy we got the result in the end. The goal [equalizer] built the team spirit and it buoyed the fans and the team.

“This is what we wanted and by God’s grace we got it. It wasn’t going to be possible that Ghana will just go out at the group stage.

“So we are happy that we have qualified and now looking forward to the next game.”
