Former First Secretary to the Venezuelan Embassy in Nairobi denied having a hand in the 2012 murder of Ambassador Olga Fonseca.
In a statement read in court by prosecutor Kennedy Limera on Tuesday, Dwight Sagaray said he did not kill Fonseca or abet the killing.
“I am not the one who murdered Fonsesca. I do not know who did it and I did not have any personal problems with her,” reads the statement.
Sagaray said Fonseca, however, wanted claims of sexual harassment levelled against former Ambassador Geraldo da Silva lodged by three workers to be withdrawn so as to protect the image of the embassy.
The court heard that Fonseca took over the embassy and developed a sour relationship with the staff.
According to the statement, Sagaray tried to talk to Fonseca about the workers’ plight, but Fonseca said the embassy was handling the issue.
The statement contradicts Machakos Senator Johnstone Muthama’s testimony on Monday that Fonseca had expressed fear over her life.
Muthama told the court that he had advised Fonseca to file a police report if she felt her life was in danger.
Fonseca was found murdered in her Runda house on July 27, 2012.
The hearing continues.
