With at least two MPs currently embroiled in accusations of rape and sexual impropriety, parliament once again finds itself in the spotlight for the wrong reasons.
To the millions of constituents represented in the August house, sex scandals are the last thing they expect from their waheshimiwas.
However this is not the first time that the bedroom affairs of lawmakers have come under scrutiny. In fact, previous parliaments have had their fair share of sex-related news headlines.
Below is a list of 10 legislators who have at one point or another been mentioned in either sex-related scandals or illicit affairs that made the news.
1. Kiambu Senator Kimani Wamatangi
In 1999, two schoolgirls claimed they had been defiled by Julius Sunkuli, who was then a cabinet minister in the government of Daniel Arap Moi. One of the girls sensationally claimed that the offence was committed on the carpet inside the minister’s official government office.
Sunkuli denied all the allegations and was never charged in court.
