It's barely a month since Belgian players; Gregory Mertens and Tim Nicot's lost their lives and death has once again robbed football of another promising star.
21 year old Emanuel Ortegaa an Argentine footballer was on Thursday morning pronounced dead after suffering a skull fracture during a match against Juvenad Unida, in Argentina's 5th tier league on Wednesday.
Given a light push, the off balance San Martin de Burzaco player could not stop his momentum and went head first into the concrete wall which, rather unbelievably, is only one metre away from the pitch.
According to 101greatgoals.com, Ortega had emergency surgery on his double skull fracture on Wednesday but the sad news was on Thursday confirmed by staff at the medical centre.
But what's more shocking is the fact that in 2012, the deceased had foretold of his own death in a heartfelt Facebook status.
He wrote:
“Perhaps I won’t ever play football professionally,” he wrote. “Maybe I will, or maybe as an amateur, but when I go for each ball I am going to die, when my legs say STOP, my heart says CONTINUE.
“The difference between me and professionals is that when my boots break, I don’t change them, I spent all night tidying them up and gluing them back together so I can play again because it is what I love.
“Football is my LIFE, not only a past-time, it is what makes me forget everything else, and I will give my life for it.
“The day that I can’t play any more, that is where my life ends.”
It is up to your discretion whether or not you want to watch the video below: May Emmanuel Ortega rest in peace.
