Twenty-six Embu boda boda operators have formed an investment company and bought a KES 1.6 million plot.

The boda boda operators said they are treated with contempt because some colleagues are undisciplined, suspected of colluding with criminals, dirty and reckless, but they do not want such a reputation.

They said their business can be transformed to attract respect from customers and the society and help them improve their livelihoods.

This is why they formed the Wiselink Boda Boda Investors Company, where they each save KES 100 a day, board chairman Paul Maina said.

He said they borrowed a KES 1.6 million loan from Rafiki Micro Finance against their savings (KES 900 000) and bought the 60 by 120 foot plot in Blue Valley Estate, Embu town.

Maina said that they will build residential houses and later put up commercial buildings.

He said they are coming up with a strategic plan on which they will base their future investments, which might include courier services and a sacco.

They have strict rules for members, including obeying traffic rules and being smart, clean, hospitable and disciplined.
