PSV defender Hector Moreno has revealed what Luke Shaw said to him when he visited him in hospital.
It was the Mexican’s tackle that cause Shaw’s double leg break during Manchester United’s defeat at PSV a fortnight ago, which will keep Shaw out of action for the next 6 months.
Moreno won the ball with his tackle, but then caught Shaw with his trailing leg, resulting in a horror injury for the United and England full-back.
Moreno has been portrayed as a hatchet man for his suppose recklessness, but it turns out that judgement is unfair on the Mexican: even Shaw accepts that it was simply unfortunate.
Speaking in an interview with Dutch paper Metronieuws, Moreno reveals how Shaw accepted his apology and that the injury was a complete accident.
What happened to Shaw was very unfortunate. I was just in shock.
I’m glad I was able to go speak to him. I went with Phillip Cocu to the hospital. That was very difficult at the beginning, but he was very kind to me and didn’t blame me.
‘He had seen the images and said it was part of football. That made me smile.’
