A new wave of crime has hit Naivasha town ahead of the festive season leaving area residents and visitors in fear.
This came as a group of thugs waylaid a couple, gang raped the wife and escaped with their personal effects near Hope well estate on Friday morning.
The attack incidentally came hours after two men were murdered in Kihoto and Karagita estate in two different incidents. In the rape incident, a couple heading home at around 3am were attacked as they opened their gate in the estate located off the Nairobi-Nakuru highway.
A witness said that the gun totting thugs seriously injured the husband who fled to seek for help leaving the wife behind.
“Two of the thugs gang-raped the woman and seriously injured her before making away with cash, mobile phones and other effects,” said the witness.
A senior police officer who declined to be named confirmed the incident adding that they were following some leads. Area leaders joined residents in decrying the emergence of armed cases of robbery in and around the town terming the trend as worrying.
Meanwhile, the search for two night guards suspected of breaking into a leading store in Naivasha and carting away Sh1.2m has been extended to Uganda.
The two are believed to have crossed over the border to the neighbouring country after carting away the cash and some goods. Over the weekend, the two guards broke into Kanini Haraka Stores in Naivasha and stole the cash which was in a safe.
An impeccable police source said that after tracking the duo using their mobile phones it had emerged that they could have crossed the border.
