Former Indomitable Lions striker Patrick Mboma is expected to arrive the country on Thursday aboard a Kenya Airways flight ahead of attending Friday's SOYA Awards as the guest of honour.

Mboma was key member of the swashbuckling Cameroon team which won the African Cup of Nations in the year 2000 and the year 2002 where he finished the tournament as the joint-topscorer with 3 goals.

He was also part of the Cameroonian team which won the gold medal at the Sydney Olympic games in the year 2000.

Famous for his cannon left foot and immense strength, Mboma also won the African Footballer of the Year Award for the year 2000.

He played 57 times for Cameroon and scored 33 goals, include one at the 1998 FIFA World Cup in France and another one at the 2002 FIFA World Cup in Japan/Korea.

Two of his 57 appearances for Cameroon came against Kenya during the AFCON 1998 qualifiers. Harambee Stars drew the two matches (0-0 at home and 1-1 away).

In an article published by capitalfm.co.ke, SOYA founder and former World Marathon record holder Paul Tergat is quoted saying, "Mboma is a good friend of mine and one of the biggest footballers in our continent. We trust that his presence here will be a motivation to other sportsmen to work hard and achieve what he has achieved. It has been our tradition every year to bring one of the finest sportsmen in the continent to have a taste of the talent we have in Kenya."
