The band was a success story since the turn of the millennium with hits like 'Ting badi mallo' 'Unbwogable' 'Atoti' 'Many faces' and many more.
According to Gidi who was a high schooler when he and Maji Maji met back in 1999, the two rocked the airwaves across the continent, did tours across the world and were even signed by South Africa's Gallo records.
After achieving all that, the two had to diversify since Gidi had to pursue his college degree and by then, Maji Maji had become a new dad.
Maji Maji and I did not split we just decided to take some time off and you know we started doing music when we were really young. I was in High school then and Maji was hustling. After some time you know life's pressure, diversifying to different stuff I was in college at that time trying to finish my course and after that life comes with different dynamics.
Maji got a kid and I got myself into other activities so getting together and doing that magic that was there before, was no longer there and we deided to take a break.
He added that after they decided to take a break, it took quite long and that is why people came to the conclusion that they broke up.
Gidi was speaking during David Mureithi, aka Dj Dlite 50th birthday ceremony at Carnivore.
Gidi had some warm words for the man who discovered him, mentored and even managed the band for seven years. He praised him as the man who pushed him to achieve great success.
David Mureithi, Mike Rabar and Tedd Josiah decided that we can work together and that is how we formed Gidi Gidi Maji Maji. We hit the studio and recorded our first song Ting Badi Mallo in 1999.He is this guy who can push you as an artist to do better and he really pushed us and made sure we got everything we needed during that time, and that is why I decided to come and celebrate his 50th birthday.
