It is no longer shocking to fin musicians making the decision to join politics. I have put together a list of East African musician who ventured into politics. From Uganda's Bobi Wine, to Kenya's Jaguar, read through my list:

1. Charles Njagua Kanyi (Jaguar)

The well known Kenyan artist Jaguar is one of the musicians who decided to join politics.  Having won many music awards from the year 2011, Jaguar decided last year to join politics where he was chosen as the member of parliament for Starehe constituency.

2. Ralph Masai

The Kenyan musician didn't first decide to get into politics. He noticed that most of his competitors were using black magic to win and wondered which side he was that made him eventually turn to Christ.

3. Frasha

Kenyan musician and member of the P Unit group Frasha decided to join politics by announcing his bid for the MCA seat in Athi river Machakos county. He studied medicine and worked at different places including Agha Khan hospital, but eventually quit so that he could concentrate on music. He then decided to get into politics and we are still waiting to see what steps he will make next.

4. Bobi Wine

The Ugandan rising pop star politician decided to join politics during the last Ugandan elections. He is currently faced with struggles with the government of the day.

He wanted to be able to reach out to the people not only through his music but also in the political field.

5. Professor Jay

Joseph Haule popularly known as Professor Jay is a Tanzanian hip hop artist who started rapping from the year 1994. He is one of the representatives of the 'Bongo Flava' which mixes elements of both Western hip  hop and the Tanzanian tradition.

He joined politics in Uganda where he became a member of Parliament for Mikumi constituency.
