Controversial businesswoman Joyce Akinyi was yesterday charged in a Nairobi court with causing grievous harm to her former business associate.
She is accused of harming Schola Namunyu on November 6 at City Hall, Nairobi.
Akinyi denied the charge before resident magistrate Hannah Kaguru. She was arrested on November 13 but she was released on Sh20,000 bail.
Akinyi's lawyer Guandaru Thuita requested the court to release her on lenient bond.
He requested to be supplied with copies of documentary evidence that the prosecution will rely on during trial.
Akinyi was released on a Sh100,000 bail, pending the hearing of the case on January 13. The prosecution said three witnesses have been lined up to testify.
This is a second case of assault against Akinyi.
She made headlines in April 2009 when she was charged in a Kibera court with assaulting her estranged husband Anthony Chinedu, calling him a drug dealer.
Akinyi was also accused of creating disturbance at Deep West Resort club in Lang’ata, Nairobi.
Akinyi and Chinedu burst into the limelight over love gone sour, which culminated in a battle over how to share family property.
