Human Rights activist Boniface Mwangi has been arrested and allegedly beaten for filming a protest by city bodaboda operators on Wednesday morning. The bodaboda operators were protesting against alleged harassment by city council officers and caused a major traffic snarl up in the CBD.
Mwangi was arrested by AP officers guarding City Hall before he was handed over to the Nairobi Central Police Station for questioning.
According to the police, Mwangi was arrested for obstruction, causing chaos and a major traffic snarl up, mobilising boda boda riders to demonstrate in town and engaging city county askaris in a running battle.
In an published by The STAR, Mwangi said the police took his fingerprints and recorded his statement on the alleged video recording.
He is set to appear in court on July 13 after being released of Sh50,000 police bond.
