Businesses in East and Central Africa have lost over KES 1.2 billion in businesses due to the strike by dockers in Mombasa.

The Kenya Ports Authority has lost over KES 200million and by Saturday, the port had a backlog of about 2500 containers waiting to be cleared.

The KPA management is however optimistic that the containers will be cleared by Monday with the KPA Managing Director Gichiri Ndua saying that 27 staff have been dismissed for participating in the strike.
