Candidates who have been selected to join secondary schools will be required to report between 3rd and 10th February. Out of the over 900,000 candidates who sat for the KCPE exams last year, more than 160,000 won’t be able to join form one come next month and are being encouraged to join technical and vocational institutions.
Meanwhile, letters for secondary school admission will be issued online from next year. Education CS Fred Matiang'i says this will help get rid off middlemen who hide form one admission letters to create chances for their preferred candidates.
Matiang’i has further warned school heads against charging candidates fees for national exams. He says they have received complaints from parents despite the government giving 3.4 billion shillings to cater for the exams.
