The body of former long-serving Kanu Secretary General John Joseph Kamotho will be flown in from South Africa on Wednesday according to a family representative.
Nyokabi Kamotho, daughter to the late cabinet minister said her father suffered from septic arthritis on one of his hip joints which spread to other parts of his body and infected his internal body organs.
Nyokabi said the veteran politician had already undergone two unsuccessful operations in the country before flying to South Africa for specialised treatment.
She added that, Kamotho underwent major surgery at Milpark Hospital in Johannesburg, South Africa but developed complications shortly after and was admitted at the hospital for a month before he passed away.
The 72 years old politician suffered from a serious bout of pneumonia immediately after elections before later developing arthritis.
“Preparations for his burial are still on their early stages and will be completed once his body arrives from South Africa,” Nyokabi told the Star.
In September 2012, the politician who was also diabetic fell ill and almost collapsed at a function in Ihura stadium Murang’a. He had to receive first aid before being rushed to hospital for further treatment.
Kamotho was campaigning to be Murang’a county senator but lost to the then Kenyan Ambassador to Belgium Kembi Gitura.
Mathioya Mp Clement Wambugu on his part gave his condolences to Kamotho’s family describing him as a seasoned politician worth emulating.
He said the late politician had political experience spanning over four decades and made enormous developmental contributions especially in the education sector.
”Kamotho was responsible for the establishment of the Makuyu Teachers college when he was the Minister for education in 1991,” Wambugu said.
