A witch doctor has said the gods are holding on to the body of a three-year-old boy who drowned in Arror River in November.
The old wizard from Kaben village said Dairus Kiplimo was abducted by ilat gods to look after their cattle as the boys in the underworld had been circumcised.
He said he constantly communicates with the gods and could see Kiplimo grazing the cattle while they sat on a rock and watched, removing lice from each other’s hairy bodies.
He told residents of Ng’orng’oroi village in Marakwet West that the boy will be released after a series of rituals once the gods are done with him.
He advised elders to slaughter a black sheep and brew traditional beer, and leave them at the point where he drowned.
Kiplimo’s mother Ann Kipkenei said the ilat will release Kiplimo at the appropriate time. His father Tyson Kipchirchir did not comment.
Some villagers however said the old man is a con taking advantage of Kiplimo's desperate parents.
