Twelve teachers who were arrested in Mombasa on Wednesday on suspicion of leaking KCPE exams via WhatsApp were arraiged in court on Thursday where they were charged with having unauthorised KCPE material.
Appearing before Senior Principal Magistrate Diana Mochache, the twelve teachers of Star of the Sea school denied the charges and were released on KES 500 000 bond each.
The teachers, who were invigilating the exams, allegedly shared mathematics, English and composition papers via the WhatsApp.
Detectives from the Criminal Intelligence Unit confiscated their mobile phones and are trailing a former teacher of the school who is said to have been the source of the message.
Teachers at the school defended their colleagues saying police fabricated the information to prove they are dealing with exam cheating in the region.
The school's headteacher, Ruth Musyoki, declined to comment on the case that will be heard from December 14 to 16.
