She is known as fiery and controversial.
Laikipia woman Rep Catherine Waruguru has caught the attention of Kenyans once again after a video of her quarreling a Somali policeman went viral.
Here are the many times she has caught the attention of Kenyans
1. She was captured on video telling the country that a Kericho hotel barred her from the premises after she failed to produce a marriage certificate to be able to spend the night.
“I am hearing all sorts of rumours that I was with a ‘toy boy’. I was only with one man by the name William Kiprotich Kiget who is my husband. He is in a polygamous set up and I am not embarrassed about it,” she said.
Waruguru said she checked into the hotel at 4pm on Saturday, filled the registration card and was given a room before leaving for dinner with her in-laws.
‘sleep with whoever you want’
Upon returning at 9pm, Waruguru said she was not allowed into her room for lack of a marriage certificate.
The couple left the hotel in a huff at 11pm but not before journalists at the scene captured the drama which was highlighted in the news..
2. She shocked a rural audience admitting being a single mom is a liability
“I have been single and I know the kind of discrimination single women go through,” Waruguru said.
“Every young girl who is single and has a son anakaa ni kama kupata bwana ni shida kwa sababu mnafikiria ni shamba anataka (single women find it hard to get married because people always assume they are after the man’s land),” Waruguru told her audience during a prize-giving ceremony at Mugumo Primary School in Laikipia East.
3. She admitted to being a second wife and has no regrets about it
She is married to lawyer William Kigen.
Speaking in a TV interview on KTN, Waruguru insisted that she is legally married and that the constitution recognizes their union.
Waruguru reiterated that she has no apologies for being a second wife and was proud and better off that her husband was the man she wants to be with.
“Nobody should take the role of God…
“I will challenge my good friends. Most of them I know they are married and they have their marital wife or husband but wakona mpango zao,
“You will realize that I am better off if I know this is the man that I want to be with. I would like anybody to challenge me and tell me whether if I am casted to go to hell because I am married the second wife,
“Allow me to be grilled and asked questions by God. Let no one play the moral police,” said Waruguru.
3. On Friday March 16th, Warugur was arrested after confronting a Somali police officer telling him that this is not Kismayu.
The MP was arrested at a Nanyuki hotel shortly after attending a press conference addressed by Interior CS Fred Matiang’i.
She is said to have incited operators of the banned Probox and Sienta vehicles to demonstrate over police harassment.
