Unless Yaya Toure's agent apologises to Pep Guardiola, the midfielder will earn close to £10million without playing a single game for Manchester City in the final 10 months of his contract.
Pep Guardiola told a press-conference on Tuesday that the midfielder will not play for the club again unless his agent apologises for comments made after he was omitted from City's 25-man Champions League squad.
This raises the prospect of Toure pocketing the rest of his £225,000-a-week wage while only training with the club where he has spent the last six years.
Toure's last appearance - and only one under Guardiola - came on August 24 in a Champions League play-off second-leg , where City already led Steaua Bucharest 5-0 on aggregate.
Between then and June 30, 2017 he will earn £9.9m for the final 10 months of his contract.
After joining the club in 2010, Toure has entered the final 12 months of a four-year deal that he signed in 2013.
This comes after it emerged that the Ivory Coast man, who retired from international football on Tuesday, was not included in the club's squad photo this season.
While Toure was suffering from a migraine at the time the picture was taken, City's decision to go ahead without him speaks volumes about the increasingly hostile stand-off between his agent and manager.
