MERU: New commercial sex workers assaulted by seasoned colleagues

Commercial Sex Workers operating within the Makutano Shopping Centre in Meru have embarked on a spirited campaign to chase new entrants into the trade whom they accuse of highly chewing into their income.

The twilight girls have in the past one week been engaged in runs with the new girls across the town at night.

According to Anita Kagendo a sex worker, within the last three months the shopping centre has experienced an upsurge of the girls with more than 71 new girls being reported to join the trade.

She said some of the seasoned operators have been forced to go home without a penny after it emerged that the new girls are attracting customers with ease unlike their elder companions.

“Some of us are being forced to spend the night in the cold only to go home with only two hundred shillings and other times we don’t have anything even to feed our children. We will continue with the operation until when they will leave or they just find other places to carry out the trade”, she said.

The seasoned twilight girls have partnered with the street boys and street families to identify their competitors and once they spot them they use whips and also confront them physically where the latter are left scampering to safety to avoid being assaulted and public ridicule.

According to the latest statistics, Meru Town has over 300 commercial sex workers who are stationed along the busy streets of the town and other entertainment joints in wait for their catch.
