A man and a woman who were involved in a road accident days before their wedding day, have exchanged their marriage vows at a Nyeri hospital on Saturday.
31-year-old Miriam Gakenia was wedded to 27-year-old James Mwangi while lying on her hospital bed at the Outspan Hospital after suffering an injury to her hip during the accident which occurred at Kiangwachi along the Nyeri-Nairobi Highway on Tuesday last week.
The two were traveling back to Nyeri from Nairobi, where they had gone to do some shopping for their weekend nuptials.
Mwangi was treated and discharged but Gakenia was seriously injured on her right hip joint, which makes it difficult for her to sit or stand.
“The wedding had to go on. We had prepared for this day for the last six months and no intervention from the devil would stop us. Even if she lost her legs, she is still my wife,” Mwangi said.
“I informed my doctor I had a wedding and we would not postpone it. The accident shocked us but since we are alive, we decided to go ahead with our plans,” Gakenia said.
The hospital’s management agreed to have the wedding conducted on its ground.
