The move by the ICC to terminate the case against DP William Ruto and journalist Joshua Sang continued to elicit joy with IDPs in various camps in Naivasha terming the move as a blessing.

The victims of the post election violence which left hundreds dead and others displaced noted that the country had learnt from the violence and the ruling would unite the country.

They were however quick to note that many of them were yet to be compensated and resettled after they were displaced by the 2007-08 post election violence.

The chairman of the Jikaze IDP camp Mohammed Ngugi said they were yet to get land that they were promised when the President toured the area.

Ngugi said some of the IDPs were taken to Laikipia County and shown their piece of land adding that no one has been given documents to show ownership.

While welcoming the termination of the cases, Ngugi who was evicted from Kericho during the violence urged the leadership of the country to consider dealing with the IDP’s issue once and for all.

“They are very happy the case is ended and they should share with us the joy by resettling us too so that we continue with our lives from where we left,” he said.

His sentiments were echoed by Patricia Gitau who hailed the decision by the ICC trial judges to withdraw the cases against the two.

She however called for speedy resettlement of some of the IDP’s who are still in camps so that they can move together with others on matters development.

“Some were given Sh400,000 others Ksh 200,000 while others were shown land to settle and were not given title deeds to prove ownership,” she said.

On her part a granny Daniel Kariuki called on Kenyans to pray for the president and his deputy now that the cases were through so that they could lead the country to prosperity.

“We pray that there will be no violence in Kenya again and I ask all Kenyans to continue praying so that what we witnessed is not repeated,” she said.

At the height of the violence, hundreds of the fleeing families mainly from South and North Rift sought refuge in Naivasha.

The families were later resettled in various parts of Naivasha and Gilgil with many vowing never to return to the affected areas.
