ODM has tasked Jubilee to explain the source of the funds it is using for its political activities, particularly the celebrations of its merger slated for Saturday this week.

In a statement issued at Orange House on Wednesday, the coalition said it has reason to believe that the ruling coalition is "stealing money from public coffers to run party activities ".

"We want Jubilee to assure Kenyans that its activities will not lead to the kind of inflation that was witnessed in this country after the 1992 elections in which the then ruling regime threw caution to the wind and flooded the country with illegally printed and stolen money," ODM director of elections Junet Mohamed said.

"We want Jubilee to also assure Kenyans that it is not dipping its long fingers into public coffers to steal borrowed money to hoodwink Kenyans and buy elections out of desperation," he said.

Junet said that Kenya is still reeling from the effects of inflation occasioned by "reckless election spending that was made possible through printed money, proceeds of Goldenberg scandal, money laundering and even proceeds of drugs".

"Our economy cannot take another beating and we are going to hold Jubilee solely responsible should such effects again occur," the Suna East MP said.

The statement came hot on the heels of revelations that Jubilee will spend a whooping Sh2 billion over the weekend during its 3-day merger celebrations at the Kasarani Stadium and Bomas of Kenya.

Meanwhile, CORD leader Raila Odinga has dismissed the intended launch of the new Jubilee party saying it is comparable to an old monkey in a new forest. He says ODM isn't shaken by party defections and is ready to face off with the new political outfit in 2017.
