Over 100 workers of China Construction Company, Number 10, downed their tools on Tuesday, following allegations that one of their workers was beaten and locked at Mau Summit police cells for more than two days and not arraigned in court.

Speaking outside Mau Summit police post, in Nakuru, Kenya Building, Construction and Timber union secretary Rev. Maurice Chisoga accused the Chinese Construction Company for brutality against the workers saying Gideon Kiplangat, a guard was hit at midnight by one Chinese and immediately called police to arrest him and no charges have been proffered against him but was instead locked at police cells.

Rev. Chisoga accused police of siding with the Chinese who torture local employees, who earn meager salary despite working for long hours.

A visit to the police post found the Chinese negotiating with the police to release Kiplangat without taking him to court. This was going on as the workers continued holding demos. A police officer confided that he will be released today and will resume his work immediately without being taken to court.

Kiplangat said he was hit with an electric torch at midnight and came to much later when he found himself in police cells where he was denied access to medication.

"The Chinese have come and apologized this morning urging me to drop the case but never assured me that I would go back to my daily duties," Kiplagat said.
