The Energy Regulatory Commission has announced new prices which will be in force from today, June 15, to July 14.
The new prices will see the cost of Super Petrol increase by KES 4.39 per litre with the Diesel and Kerosene going up by KES 3.97 and KES 2.94 per litre respectively.
According to a statement by ERC, the new prices were arrived at after taking into account the weighted average cost of imported refined petroleum products.
"The change in price was a result of the average landed cost of imported Super Petrol increasing from US$ 669.15 per ton in April 2015 to US$ 703.37 per ton in May 2015. Similarly, the average landed cost of imported Diesel during the period increased from US$ 581.49 per ton to US$ 602.46 per ton. The average landed cost of imported Kerosene during the same period increased from US$ 613.22 per ton to US$ 633.13 per ton, " the statement further explained.
The Commission also attributed the rise in pump prices to the depreciation of the Kenya Shilling against the US dollar. "Between April and May, the mean monthly US Dollar to Kenya Shilling exchange rate depreciated by 3.10% from KES 93.95 per US$ in April 2015 to KES 96.86 per US$ in May 2015," the statement said.
