Husband to deceased Kalenjin musician, Diana Chemutai alias Chelele, who was arrested in Nakuru on Wednesday, has been charged with her murder.
Erick Musila, who the court ordered that he be remanded for 25 days, did not take plea when he appeared at Kericho Law Courts on Thursday over the killing of Chelele.
The police officer was taken to the Kericho Police Station under heavy security as area residents reportedly planned to lynch him.
Chelele's body was founddead early Saturday morning at her Kapkwen residence, some five kilometres from Bomet town.
The musician was involved in numerous family and legal disputes with Musila, who left with their two children and has been living with them.
A case on the custody of the twins is also pending at the children’s court in Bomet.
Chelele tried to commit suicide in October last year but was rescued and had been living with fellow musicians in Bomet town.
The hearing for the case was set for February 8 this year.
